ATLANTA — The New Year is here and Severe Weather Team 2 has you covered for the fireworks forecast with an eye on the weather patterns over the next few days.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon said Tuesday morning that a cold front is moving through the metro area with gusty winds for New Year’s Eve and the night will be cooler as we celebrate the change of date.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says right now, there’s a high chance of much colder temperatures coming to the metro Atlanta area by the second week of January as arctic air moves in.

More immediately, temperatures are going to fall into the 30s.

However, conditions will stay dry through Saturday with a chance of rain on Sunday.

Beginning with New Year’s Day, lows will be in the 30s and highs will only get around 50 degrees before the colder air arrives next week.

Because we’re more than a week away it’s too early to determine if, or when, we’ll see a snow day.

Nitz said due to the cold temperatures, Brad’s Coat Drive is being extended an extra week through Jan. 10, 2025 for an additional coat collection push.

With cold air in place Severe Weather Team 2 will be monitoring any possible precipitation. It is too early to know whether frozen precipitation will affect us.
