A Georgia Department of Transportation camera over southbound traffic showed water covering up the first four lanes of the interstate. It was deep enough to nearly cover the tires of SUVs trying to pass through. Each passing car created another layer of waves, making the interstate look like a small lake.

Another camera showed a HERO unit blocking the ramp from I-285 eastbound to Buford Highway in DeKalb County. The exit ramp appeared to be under several inches of water just before 9 a.m.

Triple Team Traffic’s Ashley Frasca recommended staying off the interstate and using Buford Highway as an alternate as long as the flooding persists.

It’s expected to be a busy weather day across north Georgia. Several tornado warnings have been issued already.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Areas could see anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain on Tuesday into Wednesday
  • A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for most of the Channel 2 viewing area.
