MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of north Georgia on Thursday.
The advisory is in effect for Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union and Towns counties from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan said some places will see light snow and sleet.

Here’s what you need to know:
- Winter mix that could accumulate up to an inch on mainly grassy and elevated surfaces.
- Roads could become slippery
- Temperatures in far north Georgia will plunge into the lower 20s by Friday morning

Union County Schools will be releasing early at noon today due to the possibility of winter weather. Car rider lines will begin at noon. The buses will load at 12:30 p.m. High school student drivers and car riders will be released at 12:30 p.m.
Fannin County Schools will release two hours early. Student drivers will be released from Fannin County High School at 12:30 p.m. Parent pick up for the elementary schools will begin at 12:45 for K-2 students and 1:00 for students in grades 3-5. Parent pick up at the high school and middle school will begin at 1:15 p.m.
Gilmer County Schools will be on a 2-hour early release schedule. All after school activities are also canceled.
